ACODA — Persuasive UX & AI Analytics
A sophisticated platform combining persuasive user experience design with machine learning-driven consumer behavior analytics to increase conversion rates and improve user engagement in digital sales assistants and energy tariff advisory systems.
ACODA develops advanced machine learning systems and persuasive user experience design models that understand individual consumer decision-making styles and adapt digital interfaces to increase engagement and conversion rates. The project bridges behavioral psychology, AI, and UX design to create more effective digital sales assistants and advisory systems.
Problem & Context
Digital sales assistants and advisory systems face a critical challenge: users have diverse decision-making styles and cognitive preferences. Some users prefer detailed technical information and analytical decision support, while others respond better to simplified interfaces, intuitive visualizations, and conversational guidance. Generic, one-size-fits-all interfaces fail to serve both groups effectively, resulting in high dropout rates and lost conversions.
The energy sector exemplifies this problem. Energy tariff advisors often present complex information that confuses rather than empowers consumers, leading to low completion rates and poor purchase decisions. Retailers face similar challenges across e-commerce, telecommunications, and financial services, where conversion rates plateau despite improving platform features.
Solution & Approach
ACODA addresses this through three complementary innovations:
AI-Driven User Behavior Classification
Machine learning algorithms analyze user interaction patterns from digital assistant sessions to classify decision-making styles without requiring long user histories. Drawing on psychological frameworks including the Elaboration Likelihood Model and Need for Cognition theory, the system distinguishes between analytical and intuitive decision makers, maximizers and satisficers, and other key behavioral dimensions. This "cold-start" capability means new users receive personalized experiences immediately.
Consumer Insights Analytics Platform
A cloud-based SaaS platform extracts actionable consumer behavior insights from interaction data across digital sales assistants. The system identifies consumption patterns, identifies product preferences, predicts user intent, and benchmarks performance across cohorts. Built on AWS infrastructure with continuous learning capabilities, it serves retailers, brands, utilities, and financial institutions with real-time market intelligence.
Persuasive UX Design Model
Drawing on established behavioral science frameworks (Fogg's Behavior Model, Cialdini's principles of influence, Persuasive Systems Design theory), ACODA develops a systematic approach to adaptive interface design. Elements including testimonials, social proof, frame effects, and personalized messaging are strategically deployed and tuned based on identified user types. The goal: measurably improve user comprehension, decision confidence, and conversion rates while maintaining transparency and avoiding manipulation.
Real-World Testing & Results
ACODA was validated through extensive multi-variant A/B testing with leading retail and utility partners including major e-commerce and energy companies. Live tests with the Stadtwerk Hassfurt energy tariff advisor demonstrated significant uplift in user comprehension and decision confidence. Crowd-sourced testing with 50+ participants validated the persuasive UX model design principles. The project also established a validated Platform-as-a-Service business model, with profitability projections reaching profitability within 2.5 years from market introduction.

EIPCM’s Role
EIPCM led the development of the persuasive UX design model, bringing expertise in user-centered design, behavioral change, and persuasive systems. The institute designed and executed crowdsourced user testing to validate design principles, collected and analyzed feedback from 50+ participants, and iteratively refined the model based on behavioral metrics and user insights.
This work builds on EIPCM's prior experience in behavioral change initiatives including enCOMPASS, SmartH2O, and SIT4Energy. The persuasive UX research demonstrates how established behavioral science frameworks can be systematically applied to digital interface design, creating measurable improvements in user engagement and decision quality across domains.
